Anna Faris and Her Cute Bob!

It was recently reported that Ana Faris and her husband Chris Pratt are having a baby! Big news from this funny twosome! I couldn’t help but love this photo with her adorable ‘do! This hairstyle is reminiscent of the flapper hairstyles that rarely fade from fashion.

To get this look, let your stylist know you want a bob that hits 2-3 inches below your ear lobes and a heavy bang in the front. This will be an easy style to maintain as it should only take a few moments to either flat iron or add product for natural waves.  This is also a style perfect for women looking to rock a shorter style but who still want to look professional!

What Can Baby Powder do for Your Hair?

Along with your hairspray, mousse, and hair tools do you have baby powder? If you have oily hair, you should!

Dry shampoo is a miricle worker which gives hair volume while getting rid of excess oils. While dry shampoos are convienant and can be found in tons of formulations, there is another option! Baby powder.

If your hair has oily roots or if you want to touch up while on the go, simply apply baby powder to your hair and then brush through. Don’t have a brush? Apply it to the oily section & shake the hair to get rid of the excess. This will soak up the extra oils and is easy to travel with. Consider taking it in a small shaker bottle and keeping it in your car, adding it to your luggage for travel without having to worry about liquid restrictions, or even take it on a camping trip.

How to Communicate With Your Stylist

Ever walked out of a salon with a brand new haircut unhappy? Let’s stop that right here and now! Here are some steps to take that will ensure you, your hair, and your stylist will part on happy terms.

1. Pick a Stylist

If you are looking for a long term stylist, its important to do some shopping. Check out their clients, personal style, and be informed of what services they are best at. Want the inside scoop? Talk to the receptionist about what you are looking for specifically and she might be able to point you in the right direction!

2. Communication

If you went into a restaurant and the waiter asked you what you wanted, you’d answer him right? If you order the house special, be prepared that although your stylist should do their best to make it fit you it might now be what you envisioned. Talk to your stylist like you would a friend. Be direct, but friendly.

3. Know What You like

It sounds silly, but you need to go into a new haircut knowing what you like. Do you hate layers? Love volume? Want to wear it straight? These might not seem important to you, but your stylist will take all of these concerns and preferences into consideration.

4. Get Visual

Don’t sit down in the chair and say “I want to go blonde with a cut like Reese Witherspoon” because your stylist is left with oh so much guess work. Reese Witherspoon when? What shade? This is where pictures come into play! Find something online or even use a hairstyle generater and then print out the photos or save them to your phone. This way, your stylist isn’t guessing which hue or cut you are referring to!

5. Play With Your Hands

Don’t just say 2 inches, show two inches. So often people complain that their stylist took off too much or too little. Show your stylist exactly where you want you cut point to be or how high up you want layers chopped.

6. Be Careful What You Wish For

Be warned that letting your stylists “do what looks good” might not look so good to you! This is not to say that if you trust your stylist that you shouldn’t give them a shot at a blank slate. Just be aware of your likes/dislikes and communicate it to them.

7. Be Straightforward

If you don’t like your cut, tell them. They are there to make you happy, they perform a service based on this. Let them know before you leave or even up to two weeks later if you have an issue with a cut. Most are happy to adjust it to your liking within this timeframe for free as they want you to love your hair. Its good business afterall!

How to Keep Your Flat Iron in Great Shape

Sometimes we forget the basics of keeping our hair straightener in tip-top shape. If you take care of your tool, especially the plates, you will have a flat iron that lasts and lasts! Here are some tips to keep it performing for years to come.

1. Get on a cleaning schedule. Instead of waiting until you have unsightly product buildup and a big job ahead of you, start at the beginning. Get in the habit of cleaning your flat iron after every use quickly then picking one a day week to get into the grooves. Remember to always let your iron dry before plugging it back in.

2. Don’t wrap your cord. Often if your cord gives out, clean plates won’t do you any good! Make SURE not to wrap your cord around the device as this is known to cause shorts in the connection. To store your hair straightener, coil it next to your flat iron or keep it in a heat resistant bag.

3. Store It Right. Storing your flat iron correctly is imperative to keep it functioning well. Often flat irons get damaged in common ways not just over time with many uses. Store it safely away from moisture, extreme temperatures, and put away. Don’t leave it out on your counter to get knocked down repeatedly. Try to store it in a heat safe bag or pouch.

4. Flat irons have feelings too. Just like delicate makeup brushes, your flat iron needs to be treated with care. Don’t shake it, swing it, or slam it around. Pay attention to make sure you don’t consistently hold it by the cord as this can eventually weaken the connection as well.
